MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Core Competency #9: Designing Actions
Building upon the convergence of clues, insights and aha's that excite our clients and us as coaches, we immediately proceed to the crucial phase of "Designing concrete Actions". They say "without a clear and concise map or plan, any ole road will get you there: anywhere, someday, maybe." This was the typical approach to life during the 60's and 70's, with the laid back kumbiya and comeseecomesaw mentality that defined an era. Today, that approach has shifted to a more directed, disciplined or dedicated modus operandi for successful people. Contemporary folks are hungry for more in just about every aspect of life imaginable. That's where a wide spectrum of coaching niches is striking such a harmonious and welcomed chord with the people globally.
This 9th Core Competency develops the ability to create with the client opportunities for ongoing learning and new actions that will most effectively lead to agreed-upon coaching results. Intense listening, creative presence, imagination and reinventing unique "out of the box" perspectives converge to germinate exciting solutions in a fast changing world.
By restating the client's stated agenda, by including skills of thinking, feeling and learning and by integrating the client's entire universe of options wherever appropriate, the coach co-creates with the client a new and convincing long term plan. It is precisely this plan of action that will persist in changing behavior and achieving the client's desired results. Watching Michael Phelps perform at the Olympics, then listening to him reveal his tips and techniques of success, one is struck by the hallmarks of a real champion. But the multitude of champions at every rung on the developmental ladder of progress is where we coaches enter the arena with our clients.
A special thanks goes out to everyone who helped put on and who attended the recent Summer Sizzler at Hayden's Lakefront in Tualatin.
ABC's of conference call etiquette:
Announcing yourself: If you join prior to the call beginning, feel free to announce yourself. If you join after the beginning of the call, please be respectful of the person speaking and hold your voice until later in the call. When asking a question, be sure to announce your name first so everyone knows who's on the phone! Background noise: This is your opportunity to be on a call, present with a Master. You're encouraged to take notes, relax, sit back, and participate. If you have children, pets, household chores, or other noise, please use mute. To go on mute, dial 4 * while on your call - you will get a message that says that you're on mute. To go off mute, press 4 * again. Conference: Yes, this is a conference call! You will be on the phone with other NWCA members - and like all of our meetings we encourage questions and all participation. If you have burning, yearning questions for one of these Masters, don't hold back!
