MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Bob Renggli Core-Competency #2: Establishing the Coaching Agreement

On the ever-evolving journey of coaching mastery, the key identifier in CC #2 is the coach's role as "learner about the client". The real value of coaching rests always in the coach's diligent attention to the client, what the client wishes to accomplish and in a fully focused intentional respect for the client's agenda.

Establishing the Coaching Agreement cannot be consummated too quickly, lest the true "Flow of Coaching" conversation get off to a lame and potentially flawed start. It's like the permit process that must gain approval and signatures before the groundbreaking foundations of a tall building can be dug and set in place. The technical term of coach credentialing for this competency is: "depth of creation of agreement for the session". The differentiator between ACC, PCC & MCC levels of coaching expertise is precisely in that one word "depth" of client agreement.

Throughout the month of February, I challenge each and every coach who might read this edition of the NWCA Newsletter, to resolve to review the serious, significant and depth of steps in the agreement process with your clients. This crucial agreement phase with the client will insure the greatest impact in an ethical manner. The operative word here is "partnering" in the creation of the agreement focused on the client's expectations. Together the measurements of success are crystallized at the outset and issues to be addressed are clarified.

Finally, to the degree that the competence of the coach and the agreement of the client are in conscious alignment, to that degree growth will occur and shifts in behavior and targeted performance will not only take place but will be owned and repeatable by the client. The JOY, validation, exhilaration of a client with this new found level of awareness is precisely what coaching is all about: WOW! What a service to mankind!

Please come to the February 12th Chapter meeting and discover a tip or two about exactly how you might validate or refine the techniques you are using with the Coaching Agreement to engage your clients.

NWCA President 2008

MESSAGE FROM THE MARKETING DIRECTOR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marketing Director Position Opening Soon!
After serious consideration and a very difficult decision, my husband and I have chosen to move back to Arizona for family reasons and will be leaving in March. We have made many wonderful friends and have built many business relationships during our time in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. However, it has been very difficult being here without our family (some of whom have serious health problems), and our priority is to be closer to them. Therefore, the NWCA Leadership is looking for someone to take over the Marketing Director position as soon as possible.
If you are interested in serving the NW Coaches Association and being part of this remarkable and progressive Leadership Team, please contact Bob Renggli at brenggli@comcast.net. If you have any questions about the position, you may contact Kay@coachingforquality.com, or call me at (360) 314-2591 for more information.
It has been a pleasure knowing you and being part of the NW Coaches Association.
Warm regards,
Kay Fontana
Marketing Director 2008
PRE-MEETING WORKSHOP (5:45 p.m.)
The DISC Assessment: A Tool to understand clients and help your business grow.
Description: Looking for a practical tool that will help you understand your clients? The DISC assessment quickly gives you an understanding of the individual's behavioral style AND increases the client's self-awareness. What could be more valuable at the beginning and throughout the coaching relationship? Pat Beaugard will discuss why this tool is an essential part of her coaching practice.
In this presentation you will learn the following about the DISC assessment:
  • Who benefits from taking it
  • What it measures
  • When to use it
  • Why to include it in your toolkit
  • How to use it
MAIN PROGRAM (7:15 p.m.)
Using Assessments Effectively With Teams and Workgroups
Description: What do you envision when you think about working with teams or groups? Do words such as challenging, frightening, frustrating and impossible come to mind, or do you think of words like interesting, fascinating, collaborative and fun? Either way, assessments can be extremely useful with workgroups and teams. They can provide a common ground and common language that evens the playing field at work.
Learn how you can improve cooperation and performance by using assessments to assist you in your work with teams. Assessment tools can be used to:
  • build trust in relationships
  • create awareness among individual members and the whole team
  • design actions for ongoing learning
  • assist with planning and goal setting
Pat will share examples from her experience and facilitate a group activity that you can replicate.
Guest Speaker: Pat Beaugard is an Executive Coach, Consultant, and Trainer with over 25 years experience in management and education. She is a Certified Professional Behavioral Analyst who works with CEO's, managers, and employees to improve communication, teamwork, performance and leadership in the workplace. Pat managed employees and daily operations in a variety of industries and owned a business before becoming a coach. She taught at the college level and has a B.A. in Human Resources & Education, M.S. in Counseling Psychology, and graduated from a coach training program. Her volunteer activities included serving on many boards and councils in Washington State and Alaska and pro bono coaching for women returning to the workforce.
